Project: Waterfront New York, LP Offices
Location:  New York, NY

Waterfront New York, LP a real estate development company asked Windigo to design their headquarters in their most prized property, the 19th century Terminal Stores Building on the Hudson River.

The overall space included 10,000 square feet of offices, conference rooms, kitchen and dining facilities, and a roof top “think tank”. The building’s existing massive post and beam construction, brick bearing walls, and heavy wide plank floors serve as a backdrop for the design.

Design opportunities were found within the juxtaposition of the canted west wall and the building’s structural grid. Offices lined along the canted wall offer unobstructed views to the river and create a saw-tooth form that defines each office.

Utilizing the client’s own construction forces, detailing throughout was made simple and inexpensive. Gas pipe and flanges were used as partition supports, ductwork and electrical conduit remained exposed to reinforce the industrial aesthetic.

Called the “think tank”, a rooftop conference room was designed to maximize panoramic views of the city and river. An adjacent roof deck further enhances the lofty experience by taking advantage of the only site in the city from which one can see the Statue of Liberty and the George Washington Bridge simultaneously.
