Project: Jack's Coffee
Location:  New York, NY

The owner of the Greenwich Village cafe Jack’s Coffee approached Windigo to aid in the design and construction of its second location in New York’s Financial District. Working with the owner, Windigo created a space that incorporates the coffee shop’s famous communal atmosphere and the historical character of the 18th century location.

To create the nostalgic and intimate feel of the first cafe, Windigo aided the owner in the selection and installation of found objects and architectural salvage throughout the space. The exposed brick walls, rusted and peeling columns, and antique ceiling tiles contribute to the sense of history, while the use of natural and red-stained wood lend a warmth and intimate feel to the space. A counter and stools along the storefront window define the cafe as a place to see and be seen, a tried-and-true technique for developing a successful business.

Since the new cafe is located in the South Street Seaport Neighborhood, all exterior appearance and signage had to be in strict accordance with the local Landmarks regulations. Windigo worked with the existing Jack’s Coffee logo to create a signage scheme, including a hanging sign which echoes the advertisements of the area’s history.
