Project: Palm Beach Residence
Location: Palm Beach, FL

The design for this new residence, which takes its cues from the British Colonial architecture, embodies a 6,000 square foot plan intricately laid out on a sloped site, a rarity in Palm Beach. Taking advantage of the site's unique topographical characteristics, Windigo nestled the extensive program into the landscape to keep the mass of the house modest and maintain maximum open space.

By interweaving indoor and outdoor spaces of varying size and scale, the layout blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior, by defining outdoor rooms and creating a feeling of island living. The house’s standing seam roof with exposed rafters and Bermuda style shutters reinforce the island feel of the home.

In the entry hall, Windigo designed custom jatoba flooring with inlaid cream-colored limestone. The coffered ceiling in the dining room lends a grand expansiveness to the space, while the exposed beams and tongue-and-groove ceilings in the kitchen and family room bring the island atmosphere inside. The custom designed kitchen cabinetry by Windigo combined with the high ceiling create a light and airy center for the home.

Windigo’s collaboration with the owner shaped every detail to create a house that is elegantly casual to serve the family's everyday living needs. Custom cabinetry and built-ins throughout the house serve the client’s needs and fulfill a room’s purpose. The boys’ bedroom features a fiber optic ceiling of twinkling stars hovering over a ship inspired bunk-bed complete with portholes.

Interior designer Celerie Kemble put the finishing touches on the island atmosphere through her selection of furnishings and fabrics throughout.
